Thinking of a Church Wedding

Marriage is a gift of God, intended for the joy and mutual strength of those who enter it and for the well-being of the whole human family. God created humankind male and female and blessed it with the gifts of companionship, the capacity to love, and the care and nurture of children. Jesus affirmed the covenant of marriage and revealed God’s own self-giving love on the cross. The Holy Spirit helps those who are united in marriage to be living signs of God’s grace, love, and faithful-ness.

Pastor:

Pastor Heidi Calhoun is in charge of the worship service. You should consult with her on all phases of the service. She is open to suggestions and recommendations that do not violate the solemnity of the occasion. If a guest pastor is requested, you must work with Pastor Calhoun to determine the degree to which the guest pastor is to be involved.

Pastor Calhoun meets with each couple several times before the wedding to conduct counseling, provide guidance regarding marriage within the church, and to set the order for service. The pastor works closely with the wedding coordinator on all other details.

Wedding Coordinator:

The primary role of the Wedding Coordinator is to help you effectively use the church building during your wedding, to coordinate with church related staff and outside vendors, and provide direction to the wedding party at rehearsal and the wedding event. She will meet with you at least twice in the weeks leading up to your wedding day to coordinate with the church pianist and the sound technician. She will consult with your photographer, florist, and caterer to help your wedding run as smoothly as possible. If you need referrals for any of these services, the wedding coordinator may be able to help.

On the wedding day, the Wedding Coordinator will open the church doors, and turn on the heat and lights for the wedding party, vendors and guests. She will secure the building at the conclusion of your wedding event. If a reception is to be held at the church, the Wedding Coordinator will help the caterer access the kitchen and serving areas. She will assist with setting up tables and chairs and in some decoration.

The wedding coordinator should not be confused with a personal assistant or a wedding planner. If you would like these services, please inquire and the Wedding Coordinator may be able to refer you.
